Monday
Just checking in... Heh. I managed to go a whole month without posting a single entry. Yeah, I'm the champEEN. Oh well. For once, some good news to report: I've got some Web design clients! My 'old' client, Euramco Safety (formerly Ramfan) called me for another job. I'd created a splash page and site template (you can view the template at their European division) for them last Fall. Anyways, they've contracted me to create a 'portal' page which will link all their divisions together. I've also added two more clients (I'm waiting for the signed contract from one of them). So, I won't exactly be rolling in dough, but for the time being, I'll have a bit of lucre coming my way. (I've also been working on sample sites to add to my portfolio in hopes of attracting the attention of some local Web development firms.) In late March I received a notice from the state informing me that I might be eligible for "extended benefits" thanks to the Federal Government. (And yes, I did qualify.) Now, I'll not being thanking the occupant of the White House, nor the majority of Republicans in the House and Senate for my extra 13 weeks of EDD benies. Why? Well, because the Democrats were the ones suggesting (and kicking and screaming about) this particular benefit just for the peeps. Dubya and the Repubs screamed back that such a plan would "hurt the economy." Whah...? Like the last (unbudgeted) tax cut for the top 1% didn't bugger the economy already. Oh, yeah, a measly 13-week allotment to the unemployed is going to just wreak the economy further. WhatEVER! So...enough ranting. At least now, with these little freelance jobs, I'll be able to extend my EDD benefits a bit further. (Yes, I do intend to inform the EDD when I'm paid for my freelance work. It's called 'Being Honest.') ______________________________
