Well, June is fast approaching the halfway mark and I'm just now posting something. Haven't I written that plaintive whine before? Oh well. Also fast approaching is the first-year anniversary of Anne's Journal of Minutiae. Woo-woo. June 27th -- seven days after I got bumped from my last full-time clerical scullionry job.

Ah yes -- FrontPage authored HTML and graphics created with Windows Paint. What a difference a year makes, hmmm? And, of course, I'm still working on Mind Diver (current total word count: 29,488). When I'll actually finish that sucker, I haven't the foggiest.

About Mind Diver's progress: I'm still having issues with telling myself that I need to just spit out the ROUGH DRAFT. That it's only a ROUGH DRAFT, that I can FIX IT later. But, no -- Anne's got to make it *perfect* NOW. I think it's a kind of obsessive/compulsive behavior which causes me to over-edit until I make myself ill with lack of confidence. The thing is: deep-down I know I'm a decent fiction writer -- I just can't ACKNOWLEDGE that fact to myself. To add another neuroses-type metaphor, I suppose I must suffer from literary agoraphobia (I can't believe Dreamweaver had the correct spelling in its spellchecker. Who knew?). Do I fear publishing's open spaces? Will I ever believe I'm *good enough*?

Still, I continue to write, hoping that I will eventually learn to believe in myself.

Jenna & Barbara at a high school reunion in Austin.I kinda feel sorry for Jenna and Barbara Bush, the Shrub's rather boisterous (I'm trying to be nice) twin daughters. To paraphrase actor David Duchovny: "Look, they're just a couple of kids trying to have fun and live their lives the best way they can." And I can agree with that...sort of.

Unfortunately for Jenna and Barbara, they happen to have very high profile parents. Worse yet, they have high profile parents who've managed to point out others' "mistakes" in parenting. Worse-worse yet, they showed a callousness for the law by commiting a similar offense a second time. A mere two weeks after Jenna had received her slap on the wrist in a Texas court! Oy!

Now the Republicans are wagging their fingers at the media for focusing on the Jenna/Barbara mess. They cry that the media had a "hands off" attitude regarding Chelsea Clinton. Well, umm, yeah -- Chelsea was only 12 years old when her daddy got elected. Child though she was, I remember many conservatives making jokes about her looks. Picking on a little kid. But that's okay if the kid is a Democrat, according to the Repugs. And although Chelsea never got into trouble, we did learn the names of all three of her boyfriends. Other than that, there really wasn't much to report about her, certainly nothing shocking.

Jenna and Barbara, however, are 19 years old and no longer considered "children." They are fair game -- and they're at the end of a very big microscope.
